This introductory course in medieval Spanish literatures follows the route of an imaginary pilgrimage through northern Spain in the year 1300, from the French border near Roncesvalles to the shrine of St. James in Santiago de Compostela. Along the way, students read works of literature associated with each of our stops. We also use a medieval guidebook for pilgrims as part of our readings to inform us of the meaning of the pilgrim journey and the hazards, physical and spiritual, that await us along the way.
